Matt and I were invited to Yakima Valley last weekend to experience the land, food, wine, and craft beverages there. We met winemakers, brewers, chefs, cider-makers, farmers, and many good-hearted, salt-of-the-earth people working hard to create beauty in the valley. I was invited because of the article I wrote about it last year, but it had been written with armchair research and interviews. Being there in person was like reading the book when you've only seen the movie.
I fell in love with the land. It's Tuscany and Umbria and Provence and Burgundy right in my own backyard, two and a half hours from Seattle. Hills and canyons, orchards and vineyards, rivers and far-off mountains. Lots more photos at my instagram. There will be much more writing to come from this experience, but for now, I am drinking it all in. And dreaming of my next trip there.
